Christine Klaver-Schmidt started her musical career in Holland. She later graduated from the Amsterdam Conservatory in piano pedagogy studying with Danielle Dechenne and Willem Brons. In 1983 Christine moved to Waterloo where she continued her studies at Wilfrid Laurier University with Professor Garth Beckett in Piano Performance.
Since graduating, Christine has worked numerous times as an accompanist, a duet partner with Janet vanderSpek, a choir director, and a church organist. In 1989 Christine performed Handel's Messiah in Trinidad-Tobago with a local choir under the direction of Hazel Graham, which included a TV interview and visit with the Canadian ambassador. Christine has been a piano teacher with the Beckett School since 1985, a member of the Kitchener-Waterloo ORMTA branch for over twenty years, and teaching privately in Kitchener's Forest Hill area.
As of September 2000 Christine has held the position of accompanist for the Inter-Mennonite Children's Choir under the direction of Carolyn VanderBurgh. Since 2004 Christine has also been the accompanist for the Menno Youth Singers with Judith Bean.
On the non-musical side, Christine and her husband Sam have three daughters, Sarah, Katrina and Chloe keeping them busy. They enjoy downhill skiing holidays to help them get through the winter and family camping in the summer months. |
